Get to know him more
Khushroo Pithawalla has been teaching paragliding since 1997 — a period spanning nearly three decades, multiple Indian rating systems, and the entire arc of the sport's development in India. Where most instructors count their experience in seasons, Khushroo counts his in generations of pilots. He has guided beginners through their shaky first ground-handles, coached intermediate flyers through thermal fear, and mentored competition pilots on race tactics — often all in the same week.
His instructor credentials are among the strongest in India. He holds an ACI (Aero Club of India) chief-instructor rating — the national governing standard — alongside an HPAC (Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association of Canada) international instructor rating. These dual certifications place him in a very small group of instructors in India qualified to teach to both domestic and international benchmarks. He holds a verifiable listing on the HPAC instructor directory while his National Chief Instructor is attached at the top of this very page.
Beyond the school, Khushroo contributes to the growth of paragliding at a national level. He sits on the Technical Committee of the Paragliding Association of India (PAI). He is also part of the Managing Committee for the Paragliding World Cup, bringing his governance and technical expertise to India's highest-profile international paragliding event.
What distinguishes Khushroo beyond his flying credentials is a career that ran in parallel for years: professional corporate training and leadership development. He designed and facilitated programs for the boards and leadership teams of India's most recognized organizations — Times of India, Godrej, Tata, Shell, and several others. He holds a Master's degree in Human Resource Development from NMIMS. This rare combination — elite technical flying knowledge fused with a deep formal understanding of adult learning, behavioral change, and leadership — means Khushroo doesn't just teach you to fly. He teaches you to think like a pilot.
Today, Khushroo runs Paragliding Bawas alongside his daughter Naasha from their base in Alibaug, offering everything from two-day P1 introductions to advanced P4/P5 examination preparation. His mentorship doesn't end at graduation. He remains available to former students for as long as they want to grow — a commitment that has built one of the most loyal pilot communities in India.

"Twenty-eight years of teaching, and the sight of a student launching solo for the first time still gives me the same feeling as my own first flight."

What he brings
Skills Refined Over 28 Years in the Air
🪂
Progressive Pilot Development
After 28 years he has a near-encyclopaedic understanding of where pilots get stuck and why. He reads a student's plateau before the student does — and knows precisely how to break through it.
🌤️
Coastal & Thermal Meteorology
Three decades of reading Alibaug's coastal weather patterns has given Khushroo a hyper-local understanding of sea-breeze cycles, thermal triggers, and the conditions that make — or break — a safe flying day.
🧠
Human-Centred Instruction
His Masters in HR Development and corporate training background mean he designs for how adults actually learn — not how textbooks say they should. Coaching is adapted to each student's psychology and pace.
🗺️
Advanced & XC Pilot Mentoring
Khushroo specialises in taking pilots beyond basic certification. His 1-on-1 mentoring programme is tailored for pilots who want to develop specific skills — thermals, ridge soaring, cross-country routing — at their own pace.
⚖️
Safety Standards & Governance
As a the Chief Instructor and PAI Technical Committee member, Khushroo doesn't just follow safety standards — he helps write them. Students learn SOPs that meet both national ACI and international HPAC benchmarks.
🤝
Lifelong Pilot Relationship
Khushroo's support doesn't end at graduation. He actively stays in touch with former students, joining them on fly-outs, answering questions years later, and watching their journeys with genuine pride.
